Gear

Gear for the skills tasks will be provided for those who don’t have their own. We will teach you that less is truly more, but for now, we encourage everyone to bring whatever they need to be comfortable. The more comfortable your are, the more engaged and excited to participate you'll be.

Clothing

Everybody knows that the weather can change in a heartbeat, so prepare accordingly.

The basics: Layers, warm clothing, heavy jacket, rain gear, extra warm socks, hiking/hunting boots.

Mindset

Above all things, bring a positive attitude! Our basic Wilder Weekend requires NO prior skills training or wilderness experience. If you show up ready to dive in, you will get more out of the weekend than you ever thought possible.

FAQ

Where is the location?

  • This will vary as we are always looking at bringing new terrain, and opportunities your way! Cripple Creek, CO is a popular location for our program, but the exact location will be revealed well in advance to the actual weekend you’ll be attending.

 

What does the class agenda look like?

  • Class will run from 6AM on Saturday morning till Sunday evening around 3pm to allow people time to commute home. Saturday will consist of 6AM-6pm’ish. Sunday’s agenda runs from 6AM-3pm’ish!

When do I arrive? Where will I sleep?

  • We encourage everyone to arrive at base camp on Friday evening to setup their camp. If not, no later than 6AM at base camp on Saturday morning! Some locations have hotel/cabin accommodations available, and some don’t. We will have a 15 man canvas tent with a wood burning stove inside for anyone who’d like to sleep there, or they can setup their own camp via a tent, hammock, tarp, or sleep in their car.

What type of clothing will I need?

Do I need prior survival experience to take this course?

  • Absolutely NOT. Our basic course requires NO prior skills training. As you advance your way through our courses from basic, intermediate, and onto advance, you’ll be required to take the prior courses class before advancing to the next as our skills build off of one another from prior courses.

Do I need to do the Wilderness Fitness Challenge to take a survival course?

  • Absolutely NOT. These are designed to help prepare you for our WFC, but by no means do you need to register for the WFC to come and experience one hell of a fun weekend!

What if I can’t complete the tasks that are asked of me? Both survival skills, and fitness related tasks?

  • NO PROBLEM! We are here to serve you. If a task can’t be completed due to a physical limitation, then a different task will be presented that’ll still tie in the skills being learned. If a physical fitness task can’t be completed due to a physical limitation, then a modification will be provided to ensure everyone is challenged in an awesome way!

How many people are in each class?

  • Our classes are capped at 10 people to ensure safety, and quality coaching/training.

What’s the age limit?

  • 12 years of age and older.

Do I have to sign a waiver?

  • Absolutely. Our job is to ensure everyone is safe, efficient, and effective, but we also know that accidents happen.

What do I need to bring for food?

  • You’ll be required to bring all your own food. We will have a lunch break from 12-1’ish on Saturday and Sunday. Breakfast and dinner will be on your own time before/and after class.
