"Don't be discouraged. It's often the last key in the bunch that opens the lock. "
This week is all about the dreaded plateau. We all experience them. You're doing all the right things (at least you believe you are) yet you aren't seeing the results you want. This is one of the main reasons so many people give up and fall back into old unhealthy habits. I mean if you are doing the right stuff and not seeing results, then why not just throw the towel in and go back to doing the wrong stuff?
I have words of wisdom for you all on how to cope with these plateaus, but first let's hear from our awesome 8 to see how they feel about this topic.

So how else can we cope with plateaus or setbacks?
First of all, it's so important that you expect them to happen. None of us are perfect. We often find ourselves in situations out of our control. Additionally our body may not be interested in doing what we want it to do. If you expect everything to go quickly, smoothly, and just the way you want it to go you will be sorely disappointed. Make sure that while your goals are high, your expectations are realistic. Plan for setbacks and weeks that you won't see progress. You are still on the right track and knowing it's not a constant upward trajectory will allow you to stay the course.
Make sure you're being patient. Plateaus are a part of progress and the sort of progress that lasts is often painstakingly slow. We live in a society where we want instant gratification. We want it now...better yet we wanted it yesterday. As many BOOMers suggested in the videos venting your frustrations to a trusted source is a great way to get out your emotions. Once you have done that it can often be easier to take a deep breath, reframe your perspective, and move forward.
Make sure you actually are doing the right things. Are you eating bigger portions than you realize? Try measuring your food for a few weeks. If you are tracking your nutrition in an app are you adding everything into it? That handful of cashews will add up and yes you need to account for that extra cheese. Make sure you are being honest with yourself. Perhaps there are some things you can tweak that will shake things up and jump start a new shift.
As we near the tail-end of the 6-week challenge please keep checking in and communicating with us coaches. We are here for you now and we will still be here for you once this challenge wraps up. Almost there!
