How is it that we are already rounding second base and approaching the midpoint of the 90 Day Transformation Challenge? How are we feeling? Are you struggling with a plateau or losing motivation? Are you feeling like you're on fire and pacing like a champ? No matter where you are, accept the stage you are at. We all experience plateaus, no one is on fire all the time. I'll say that again, in another way because I really want you to hear it...no one is "succeeding" all the time.
We live in a culture that only highlights the best and brightest moments of our lives. That can be a psychological mind-f@#k. It's always when we are in the gym struggling just to keep moving, that we notice the person in the corner breezing through it like it's nothing. First and foremost, stop comparing. One of my favorite quotes is "comparison is the thief of joy". Write that down and read it every day you're feeling "less than". You are on your own journey...your own chapter. Never compare your chapter 5 to someone else's chapter 15. Allow yourself to admire them and let it help fuel you to keep moving along your path. I promise you if they can do it...so can you. It just might not be today.
For those of you who need a pep talk at this point, I've come up with some questions to ponder if you are finding yourselves a little stuck. Time to reflect my friends!
Am I following the plan?
Are you monitoring your portions? Are you tracking your nutrition accurately? Are you showing up for your workouts? Are you doing everything your coach has advised? Have you even checked in with your coach to get that sage advice? Do you even have a plan??
No? Get back on the plan or get help creating one...stat.
Am I challenging myself enough?
Keep in mind that if you only change a few small things you're only going to see a few small changes. If you want to take things up a notch, start attempting heavier weights. Never hesitate to ask your coach for a spot or form check...it's our job and we work for you. USE US!
Additionally, you could try to focus more on your pace in the workout. How many breaks are you really taking during a standard BOD? Have you tried a Fitbit or Apple Watch to monitor your heart rate and average energy expenditure? It's time to turn that volume up to an eleven.
Am I getting enough nutrition?
Many people, women especially, cut their calories WAY too low to try to lose weight fast. Sure you'll lose weight fast, but it's not fat. It's mostly liquid and it will all come back the second you start eating normally. No one should calorie restrict to the point of feeling famished all day. That, my friends, is not a nutrition plan, it's an eating disorder.
On top of that, your body is doing everything it can to keep you alive and functioning properly, so when you cut calories way too low it goes into starvation mode and holds on to everything for dear life. Your metabolism slows to a standstill and every time you do this, it gets harder and harder to speed that metabolism back up. So please...just stop. Fuel yourself appropriately. Get your macros balanced. Don't starve yourself and don't eat like an asshole. Check in with us coaches if you need more support.
Am I getting enough sleep?
This is often forgotten by so many, but sleep is HUGE! I know, I know I'm a parent too, I know life gets busy and there aren't enough hours in a day. Make it work. If the attempts you've made so far haven't worked, try new ones. Get to bed earlier, even if you have to skip your favorite show on Netflix. Change to a new routine that will work with your schedule. You need sleep to recover. You need sleep to live.
Am I being patient?
This is another big one. As you know, we live in a culture that wants results yesterday. It's not sustainable or practical, nor is it good for the soul to view life that way. Be patient! Right now, this process you're in today IS the journey. Stop obsessing over when you'll get to the different markers. With that mentality you'll be on your death bed wondering why the hell you didn't enjoy your life while you were living it.
If you keep doing what you're doing and use the support around you, you WILL get there. Slow down and enjoy the damn ride! Enjoy moving your body. Enjoy eating nutrient-rich food. Enjoy a moderate amount of your favorite not-as-healthy foods too, savor the sh*t out of them. Love the people around you and make them (and yourself) proud with the commitment you're making to care for yourself and live your best life. Check in with your perspective and change it if it's off. Be grateful. Be loving.
This life is all we get. Your decision to live it to the fullest will serve you well in all the rest of your years.
